San Pedro Alactara situated on the N-340 duel carriageway some 40 minutes from Malaga’s international airport and approx. 10 minutes from central Marbella.
San Pedros creation came in about 1860’s primary an agricultural and fishing community but since 1970’s the the thriving holiday tourism industry and an influx of various nationalities looking to relocate to this area, San Pedro has seen the development of new water and drainage systems, together with a modern communications network.
Which in turn has encouraged the construction of new housing urbanisation’s, hotels, numerous leisure developments and of course Golf courses together with all the service companies that support this flourishing industries.
San Pedro is made up of two distinct area’s, the more traditional and the new seam to live happily along side each other. The new San Pedro which is now more prominent greets you with new modern shopping complexes, beautifully kept parks, and of course the immaculately kept new promenade running along side the golden beaches.
Historically San Pedro offers Las Bovedas a Roman site dated back to the 3rd Century AD thought to be bath’s or a water storage facility.
There is also the ruins of the Basilica close by dating back to the 6th century and considered to be one of the most important in Spain, many of the artefacts found are displayed in local museums in Marbella and Malaga, they include skeletons, jewelry and clay vases.
